That should have at least been a draw with Romeros 10-8 round. You could hear how humbled and grateful Whittaker was that they actually gave him the win (instead of a draw or worse), he was so close to being stopped. Cant help but think Romero missing weight influenced the scoring of the fight.

Well he came close to TKO'ing Whittaker but as you said, it was then left to the judges. But I'm saying that it really should have been a draw like with Wonderboy and Woodley. Romero would not have won the belt even if the scorecards went his way, due to missing weight by less than 100grams, which is just some crazy shit on the part of the commission the way that went down. And even if he made weight, a draw isn't going to get him the belt but would still have been the right result for that fight. If a person doesn't score that round a 10-8 then they are blind as fuck. In the end it was a great fight once again between these two. But this time Romero did a lot better and a lot better than the scorecards show.

Weight issues aside and regardless of Whittakers toughness to work around an injury, you cant deny the mathematics, 3 x 10-9 for Whittaker and 10-8 + 10-9 (at the very least) for Romero = a draw. Even if you dont respect Romero and really like Whittaker, it doesnt change the score, or what it clearly should have been if the judges were professional and met the minimum requirement of their job that night.

i disagree. the ufc needs to implement a scoring system similar to pride where the fight is scored as a whole rather than by round. there are simply not enough rounds for the "by round" scoring system to average out. mma fights are sprints and boxing matches are marathons. Whittaker easily took the first 2. 3rd round was incredible, but I gave it to Romero. Whittaker had the 4th pretty comfortably. Yoel banished him to the shadow realm in the 5th, but Robert held on, defended himself, and even landed a few. Definitely not a 10-8 round. Even Dana White agreed in the post-fight press conference that the 5th was a 10-9 round for Yoel. Robert won fair and square. Stop detracting from the fact that this was one of the best fights the UFC has put on this year by whining about the results.

The 5th was not a 10-8 what so ever watch it again. Romero got a knock down but he did nothing with it, the rest of that round was him attempting to take Whittaker down which he couldn't Robert kept getting up and the round ended with Robert kicking Romero pushing him down.
