I feel so sorry for gus he’s been the closest to anyone to nearly win a title, I believe he’s the best fighter to never win a title
He’s up there for sure, any other era he would be a champ but he’s unlucky that jones is competing at the same time as him
Jim Green i‘d give that spot to ferguson if we disregard interim titles

Nobody has ever fought Jon Jones like Gustafsson did. That guy was Beast.
I agree
@@user-ju6kx5hp1w yeah prolly true
Both are equal in my eyes expect Jones had that last 60 second power reboot, straight machine. Even that being said I would say that was a 99 to 98 fight. Good on both of them for putting on an amazing fight for a sport they love
Dom Reyes fought him better
@@NoMoneyHeadsUp reyes didn't send jones to the hospital
Jon jones getting his leg held and then doing a flip to get out of it and then getting back up before Gustafsson can react is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Saw that in the second round. Jon is just built different this is one of those fights where close fights aren’t robberies. The fight could’ve went either way but I definitely had Jon winning
It's just a variable of a Granby Roll. You see it in almost every college wrestling match.
@@unclerico7271 but not so often in ufc
@@MuscleMan400 I think Jon slightly won. Most sources had Jon winning. About 60% did, but very very close, which is why it could have went either way. Jones was the champ though and winning at the end so he deserved it for sure. He didn't even train for this fight. He was drinking and partying. When didn't know his opponents, he wouldn't take it seriously and not train a lot of the time. Alex was not known much at all here. After this though, everyone knew him.

That left by Gustafsson at 19:04 was one of the most beautiful counters I've ever seen in my life.
Agree 💯💯
23:01 look at that exchange and how the counter does more damage than Jons initial punch.
Years later and that 49-46 is always something else to me
Gustafson took the first 3 rounds, how is it a 48-47? He even did a fkn great job at the last round, even though he's exhausted as shit he still had more shots than jones. And the 49-46... man that's tough
@@xvor_tex8577The 49-46 was insult to injury and sadly yet another example of how horrible and inconsistent judges are. I saw Gustaf win the first 3 rounds, lose the 4th after a late push from Jon, and lose the 5th due to his exhaustion. This is how I saw it 10 years ago, and I see it the same today as 3-2. 10 years later and no question Jon is the better fighter, but Gustaf was the better fighter on this night. Not even one judge scored in favor of Gustaf. Robbed.
I think jon clearly won 5, stole 4 late and won either round 2 or 3 I’d lean towards round 2 though

@@ThatNorwegianGuy- what you mean by close 4th ?
@@ThatNorwegianGuy- Very biased. You can easily say Jones won, although I suspect your opinion. Jones won the 4th very very easily. How can you say the 4th was close, but the first 3 rounds weren't? You can definitely give Jones round 2 or even other early rounds. You can't ever give Alex round 4, that isn't even arguable. Most sources had Jon winning, about 60%. I respect anyone saying Alex won though, but don't be biased on the rounds, be real. It was a very very good fight. Jon barely knew him at the time, and didn't train once, which was a mistake. They gave Alex a rematch later for good reason, he deserved it. When Jon trained though, it was very very brutal for Alex and his fans unfortunately, but I think many saw that coming.
Unbelievable. I hardly know anything about the UFC, but it isn't hard to tell this was a legendary moment in UFC history.

tactical retreats lol. some ppl talk shit on him for those but it's like.. whats the alternative? stand there against the cage and get hit with a a flying knee or spinning back elbow from jon jones? i dont think so. it's a viable strategy against jones, everyone knows what jon is capable of when he pushes forward and your back is almost up against the cage. you know some wild, potentially fight ending strike is in bound.

Yea when the game was good. Before EA sports ruined it
@Abc C jesus!
@Xftbllplyr "An eye for an eye"
jones utilizes his max reach by keeping fingers extended sometimes he misfires and pokes an eye🤣
they both had fingers out. plus guys poked him in the rematch.
that’s incredible. both fighters pushed so far past their limit and forced to simply stand and throw strikes back and forth, fight for the decision. was really rooting for gustafsson but man jon jones is just so good at staying focused and not letting his guard slip in those later rounds. and then his kicks were just wearing down gustafssons movement, that being his strongest asset. what a fight.
I've tried to be as unbiased in the watching of this fight many times. I still have Gus winning the first 3 rds. The 2nd was close, but Gus just looked to have the advantage in the striking, landing the better punches and accumulating more damage. Even in the 4th rd although Jon landed some beautiful spinning attacks, Gus appeared more tired than he was hurt. He still owned 80% of that round. A lot of Jon's kicks were checked throughout and imo with minimal effect. Two legends, but Gus won this fight.
I try to be unbiased too, and I have Jon winning, but I can see how you have Gus winning the 2nd. I feel like 60% had Jon winning, this was an extremely close fight, and it could be argued that either one of them won. I'm not sure the judges would have given it to him anyway, just based on the fact Jon was getting the better of him at the end, and they want you to show that you could have continued on and won that fight vs the champion. At least you're unbiased though. So many were biased in favor of either Jon or Alex, and they weren't watching the fight properly. Glad you were fair in your assessment.
jon controlled 60 % of round 1 but i think gustafon take down gave him the edge and the striking was pretty even
Jon clearly one round two with the consistent striking and a couple big kicks gus did nothing with the takedown
what a lot of people don't account for is the damage that Jon is doing with his kicks especially in the 1st round. basically landed 5 oblique kicks in a row in that round
Thank you
Whoever that last judge is should never be allowed to judge another fight...
Fr. Beyond corruption and/or incompetence
Wasn’t a bad call Jon pushed the pace the last seconds of each n every round
@@nlfuego3570 nah goes on strikes buddy not your ability to start swinging more in the last minute.take away gustaffsons take downs he still won. was a load of bs

This fight is so technical it’s crazy. The only man to put Jon jones on defense and the cardio to continue the pace of jones. Best opponent of Jones by far
But Jones still delivered more hit to Gustaffson right? What impresses me more is how on earth that Gustafson survived that all.
@@munawwiruljamal4149 look at the stat sheet. Gustafsson actually had like 4 times the amount of head strokes in the by the 4th round. It’s wild
Dominque riaz beat jones lol
@@sakhrproz9334 no he didn't
@@sakhrproz9334 That fight was definitely not going his way in the 5th round though, and had it gone on he was done. They would never give a fight like that, that that's close at the to the challenger. Not to mention if Jon used his wrestling it's over in one round, but that's not really relevant to the scoring. Judges would never give that to him even though he did well overall. He would have had to finish stronger.

yeah...wtf is that about. its laughable and so off point like in the Jon Jones Vs Dom Reyes fight!. And I love Bonesy too but It´s an insult to the loser to call either of those fights 49-46!

Right? 1 person is *notorious* for eye pokes. It's no secret. Gus takes Jon down and Jon is so pissed he has to start pulling out the eye pokes _immediately_ afterwards. With the situation that just happened that should be blatant cheating. You can tell in Jon's body language even. It's frustrating that someone can be such a grown up freaking brat and still allowed to win

@@BryonJrBrand No Jones definitely won, but it was a great fight.
@@BryonJrBrand They are saying Jones was invincible prior to this fight, which is true. Gus showed that Jones wasn't invincible, and took him to the limit
@@BryonJrBrand bro if another round happened than gustafson was laying down there
Neither clearly won the 1st fight, which is why you have people arguing, but most mma outlets scored it for Jones, which is saying something, and we all know how the 2nd fight turned out when Jon actually trained.
As a Jon Jones fan, that 49-46 score was insane. Gustafsson had an amazing fight and boxed really well. The jabs were coming in plentiful. I could even see Alex winning the fight but I can see Jones getting Round 1 for significant kicks. Rounds 2 and 3 were Alex rounds easily. He almost won the 4th until Jon rocked him at the end of it. Really amazing fight. But definitely not 49-46 lol
I know I never watched this fight till now and just dropped my jaw that one of the judges scored that
@@nateschiro4731 bro I thought gus had the fight already won when the 4th started, he won the first 3 easily imo and the 4th too if that last 30 sec didn't happen
Gustafsson won vs eyepoke roid jones
alex won round 1 also
@@troycrann3933 fr when the stat popped up head strikes 88-18 near the end of round 4 i thought there’s no way alex shoulda lost
This was a legendary fight.
This was, to me, the fight that brought all the best elements out of JJ's arsenal.
Still to this day after watching this fight at least 5 times including when it was live, I still do not know how the judges unanimously selected Jones as the winner!
Jones rounds 2, 4, and 5..
Gus definitely won round 2
@@ryannelson9226 How all he did was stuff takedowns and dance around every time Jones hit him..
@@mxbblife_mu oh so you missed all the times jones got punched clean and kicked and elbowed and the nasty cuts jones got ?

@@barigans homie u Good? The dude meant 48 - 47 to Gus. Meaning Gus won. Tf you mean
I love Gus, that fight was so close but he lost this. I agree with everything but round 2 was for Jon Jones.
@@engin3750 I give a minute by minute summary and the most you can say to refute it is simply: "round 2 was for Jon Jones"? Gustafsson landed the most significant strikes and takedowns of that round.
@@engin3750 u smokin trees?

Gustafsson won this fight and I'll die on that hill. Jones basically even admitted it in his HoF speech. The fact that one judge scored it 49-46 tells you all you need to know about these judges.
cry about it, jones embarassed him in the second fight.

@@mudasir6738 How...? Jones was terrified to stand with him after this first fight and had to shoot for takedowns to best him...Jones got the win but it's not as impressive considering he had to shoot. He's known for his stand up and was/is regarded as one of the greatest strikers in the history of the UFC...yet he knew he couldn't stand with Gus and had to shoot.

Jon jones is like 'Fang of metsudo' He adapts between fights
When I heard 49-46 I thought to myself - "well we have a new champion, and it's justified", but when Jones raised his arms, I was so disappointed. Alex won the fight, no doubt.
Cap
cap gus was in trouble and running way too much for judges liking. and still!!
@MÄŅIX i watched the fight 100x, gustaffson didnt win lol, jon jones kicked the fuck out of him, gustaffson did amazingly well and showcased his fast hands, but jon had him badly hurt in the 4th. Jon won 2-4-5 and its not even that hard to tell.
@MÄŅIX im not crying and im not even a jones fanboy, I say he lost the reyes fight, but if you can explain how gus won those rounds here than ok. It definitely wasnt that controversial imo and nowhere near a robbery lol.

@@erickiyoshiphillips2323 his record of playing it safe till he "accidentally" eye pokes then goes in hard for just the side he poked plus the fact gustafsson won two of three rounds and some how the judges scored it a win for jones and jon mcarthy himself said he should have stopped the fight and if it was any other ref gustafsson would have won that fight due to said stoppage jones is just the original mcgregor and made the ufc to much money for them to treat him like the rest of the fighters the fact that half way through the second round after not landing a single take down and having maybe one more proper strike that wasnt an elliptical kick when he had been cut open and taken down twice but still was scored higher proves the point that jones has always been favored by judges
