Young lighter DC was vicious. Funny how people see one meme then forget a guys entire career of being a killer.
Yup. Still think that if they fight with Jones 10 times DC wins at least 3 of those. But, the man got beaten twice, so no shit. It's just a shame that Cormier's whole career is tied to Jones.
@@ScrewYou_ I don't think it is anymore once he became a double champ. What they should have highlighted at the time, but didn't was the fact that Jon Jones flat out refused to go up and fight Stipe specifically. It's even in an interview he did, he talked about how Stipe's HW attributes combined with his skill would be a tougher than necessary risk to take. If someone or the media had remembered that, it would have propelled DC's legacy even further since he accomplished something his biggest rival was literally too afraid to do and knocking out the guy he specifically was afraid to fight. That would have totally changed the narrative of who's actually better etc etc and highlighted even more so than it did that DC was never fighting in his right weight class and still managed to be so dominant. It drove me nuts that the media didn't pick up on that
DC is amomg the top fighters who ever fought in the UFC. Anybody who doesn't know that is just a casual
What meme..? What’re you talking about..?
@@jegr3398?
I remember that and thought Josh would take him out. When DC threw him in the air I couldn’t believe it. Amazing. Saw him standing in San Jose right after that looking at his phone when I had just moved there and I was staring at him thinking I know him. Drove off and then was like DAMN! That was the champ.
i would’ve regretted that day on not saying what’s up but i bet it was still a pleasure seeing him 💪 good ish
He destroyed Barnett like he was an amateur
@@alpe6228 What you may or may not have known is that Josh was very sick all week leading up to that fight. So sick in fact that they had to have him on a IV right up until just before the fight started. Normally Josh would weigh in around 260's, and would fight even heavier the night of the fight, and in most of his fights he would ragdoll his opponents and throw them around. He had dropped 30 pounds because of being so sick and was not able to fight his normal fight vs DC. But because Josh is such a badass, and old school fighter he didn't drop out of the fight and he fought DC despite feeling like shit and weak from being sick.
@@Booth55555 Fighting a striker is one thing under those conditions, but an olympic wrestler? Josh's people failed him by letting him fight that night if what you're saying is true. DC was literally undefeated at heavyweight in wrestling. That decision just doesn't make sense
@@Booth55555 Barnett at his healthiest poses no threat to DC tho so 🤷♂️
DC looks much faster here than ever, dude was a beast back in his young days
He had probably only been doing mma for a year or 2 at this point too. Dc is a legend.
i believe that the DC here that beat barnett, would have beaten jones.....he was so fast, relaxed and confidant
Romero and he both should have transferred to mma ten years earlier🥲
@@demon4874 GOAT shit right there
@@kevinlewis8162 Not the Jon who won the title at 23 against Maurício Rua.
This was the day we truly realised we were witnessing greatness.
I remember watching this like it was yesterday. Cormier was like an alternate or something and then he goes on to win the whole thing. Impressive.
i think for overeem
@@kevinlewis8162 you are right
Too bad Bigfoot beat Fedor, otherwise DC would have fought Fedor
@@jmz2144 even with Fedor getting older and more damaged, i'm glad he didn't fight DC because he could beat him and ruin his hype (DC has better wrestling, but Fedor has better boxing with more power and speed, better judo and way better submissions)
@@gigachad6885 DC would’ve destroyed him dude was past his prime
Cormier is so awesome. That takedown was amazing. Fantastic fight! Loved every second of this. More of this UFC, much more pls
Yeah, more than 1 round trying to get me to give you more money than i already do.
*You all must've forgot what kind of savage DC is ! Dc stands for double champ*
This was the first time I saw DC fight and I was shocked because Barnett was my favorite fighter at the time. Then I kept watching DC and learned his background and became a fan. 💯
If you dont appreciate DC after what he did to 6'3 Barnett. Then you are not a true MMA fan. Josh was literally about 50lbs heavier. 5'10 DC headkicked him into oblivion. Flip slammed him, beat him with beautiful striking. He looked unstoppable. I tip my cap to you DC. One of the cleanest fighters to ever be so dominant at HW. 💯🙏🌇☝️
How can Barnett claim to be 6'5, he's literally only about 3 or so inches taller than DC when they touch gloves
@@rivalriceman8449 Just the camera angle makes it look strange. If you look at him on his back when DC is in half guard you can see the size difference. Think about DC being 5'10 able to headkick him being 6-7 in taller. That's some good hip dexterity.
@@too_sturdy 100%, Prime DC steamrolls anyone at HW and LHW currently. The way he carries his weight is ridiculous
He was not 50 pounds heavier
@@rivalriceman8449 Jon Jones is current.... whatchu on about?
One of the best takedowns in mma history
I'll never forget seeing him destroy Bigfoot Silva as the alternate in the tournament. Bigfoot Silva was ranked #5 in the world and just coming off a massive win over Fedor, just had tons of momentum on his side. And this small, beerbellied wrestler comes in and mauls him in 1 round -- STANDING, by the way, no wrestling needed -- and I knew this guy was gonna be hard to beat
What's funny is, despite his olympic wrestling pedigree, he mostly struck with his opponents not named Hendo and Silva and that's probably just because he didn't want to beat the shit out of Hendo.
Let's go DC!!!! My goodness that Slam was Beautiful!
In his prime, nobody's beating this guy at heavyweight
Except Jon Jones
@@jeremiahfreitag5242 no
@@jeremiahfreitag5242 Jones cheated with doping and lost the fight.
DC at his prime will merk Jones at HW
DC got fd up and cried
what a slam
Imagine if DC skipped the Olympic cycle in 2008 and just went straight into MMA
That's one of my biggest MMA what-if stories. Looking back on it though, he won the John Smith Wrestler of the Year award in 07 so not going to the Olympics would have been crazy.
This guy looks exactly that like that ufc commentator
Imagine if DC started MMA in his 20s. The guy fought and beat larger men. Stipe, Lewis, Barnett, Mir, BF Silva all fell to him and they had all of the physical advantages
Last time i checked Stipe was 2-1 against him. Also don't worry about the physical disadvantages. He had the eye pokes as an alternative.
He wouldn't be a wrestler then
@@thesilencer4638 dc is better than stipe
@@thesilencer4638 Still got a win off Stipe at the age of 39 when he was out of his prime. Took Stipe to get DC back when DC hit his 40s. Also like I said, Stipe had physical advantages as well. A 7 inch reach advantage on Cormier
@@mariosaenz6330 k
Fedor was meant to win this whole tournament. Instead, Fedor Emelianegro introduced himself to the world 👏 👏 👏
WTF?
@@suichoy3014 Black Fedor was one of Daniel Cormiers first nicknames. He loved it. Shortly thereafter someone came up with Fedor Emelianegro.
Daniel Cormier is only 5'11 with 72.5in reach yet beat the shit out of heavyweights & light heavyweights this really shows how good DC was. His only losses are against Stipe & Jones who are considered as GOAT of their respective division
If only he didnt have a momentary lapse in judgment in the 4th round against stipe in part 2, in a fight he was dominating, he'd be at minimum top 3 all time. He's still on the list of goats, but just not in the upper upper echelon
DC says he is actually 5.9"
@@trtmuslimmcgregor4200 >momentary lapse in judgement you mean the 10 unanswered liver shots?
This was such a huge upset. He got in as an alternate for Overeem, KO'd Bigfoot at a time when it was almost impossible to knock him out, and then handled Barnett who was probably considered a top 5 HW fighter for maybe the previous 10 years.
Any time Rogan talks about DC he mentions him slamming Barnett. And rightfully so
DC at HW is really something else, a true beast, him, Fedor, Cain, Stipe are my personal fav HWs
Thx for this
Truly underrated
One of the best to fight in the octagon DC 👍👍
This is the fight where I started being a fan of DC. I remember thinking, "Who the hell is this guy?!" when he slammed Barnett
That takedown was super nice 💯
If Daniel watched his weight, he looks like he’s be a 170 or 185 fighter
185, maybe, but let's assume he could have made 185 if he dieted down, no one would have stood a chance against him. As for 170, there's no way Daniel could have ever made 170 even with a perfect diet. His frame It just too big for that.
What dominant wrestling and clinch performance from Cormier
Not the biggest heavyweight but man is that guy talented. What a great athlete and person.
Not a lot of fighters can wear Jones shoes and DC just did that. Fought Alex when many people thought he beat Jones in their 1st fight, fought Rumble 2x when people thinks he's the one to beat Jones at that time, then Move up to heavyweight and become the champ something that fans wanted Jones to do.
Cool story bro. Never beat Jones tho
@nomasporfavor @Jonathan Soko @Eight Loco all I'm saying is he did everything Jones supposed to do tho. It's true that he'll never be better than Jones but he did everything he could to play Jones while he's gone.
@@suneoallan such an odd take on things.
I actually think Alex beat DC, but whatever
What a stupid comment. 🤦♂️
Dc’s hand fighting and hand speed is very special.
This heavyweight tournament might be the best MMA tournament ever
Great fight. Also Cormier looks faster and leaner here. Imagine if he’d gotten into Mma younger snd had the experience at this age
this might be his best and most entertaining fight ever......(cormier)
I like how he ran at the end.
like a biarch
One of the GOATs
just a legend

DC was a beast
1:05 Jon Jones rn: "😳"
Always good to know the result before watching.
Woooow DC!👏👏👏
2 great fighters
Legend
Tony says some shit on social media and now everybody is attaking DC, forgetting that this guy is an absolute legend
Dude he was so good
Former champ Jan looks like Josh Barnett like their brother Josh being the oldest of course
Josh Barnett is massive. Cormier's strength is on a different level.
Uhh Cormier was heavier than him during weigh ins
What a performance
Josh Barnett heavyweight version of Jan Blachowicz 😁😁😁
Josh Barnett is a way better grappler but worse striker.
@@madgavin7568 yes, but i am just talking about the fact that these two fighters have a similar look(face)

The real MMA goat
Man I wish Cormier stayed at HW, I mean he killed it at lhw too, but at HW he looked unbeatable.
The way he ran away at the end😆
Cormier's best performance to this day imho
Great Heavyweight fighter
The way he was running at the end makes you question sometimes who really is the better fighter, if it were in a different time and different rules like in the gladiator days it.
gladiators didn't fight hand to hand and often would cooperate for the sake of entertaining their audience jsyk
@@TheKatanarama I legit know nothing about the topic Mind sharing your knowledge?
The better fighter would be the one not getting their face beat in. Lmao some people say such dumb things.
Strikeforce was awesome
DC is a GOAT but Barnett was such a good fighter as well.
Best fight
Damn where the hell did cormier get them high kicks from??! The belly didn't even hold him down hahaha
The day I didn't know shit about DC and then I did... Lol I remember expecting Barnet to make it look easy
Would like to see what an mma trained Cael sanderson could do to dc
can't believed this was already 10 years ago
If your just listening and not watching you would think the bellator commentator is doing a ufc event lmao. Wild
1:04 incredible strength of DC!
Josh Barnett practically ruled over Heavyweight mma alongside Fedor for years and it didn't look like it was gonna end. Consistently winning and beating guys whether knocking them out or submitting them. But then Werdum and DC happened. This was huge. Barnett was looking unbeatable and like too much for pretty much anyone. Check the guy's resume and some of the guys he's fought and beat. Killers. Only the best beat him. Josh even went on to return to the UFC and TKO former heavyweight champ Frank Mir. A guy DC couldn't finish. That guy was no joke. I can't help but see this as being pretty monumental to this day. DC was just that good.
That should just post the whole fight
Now imagine how good Johnny Jones is...
now imagine how far pharmaceuticals can take you

Saw the thumbnail and assumed it was DC vs Blacowicz
DC’s strikeforce fights were so awesome. Can’t believe people hated him back then

Is there just one round in Strike Force?
DC is probably the best fighter that's been totally undersized for the division
Igor..?
A rare appearance from a hairless Mauro Renallo at the end there
It should say Josh went the distance with Daniel
He could forgive himself for running away from his opponent :) 2:48
For someone who got popped for PEDs about 37 times Barnett is pretty flabby 😂
DC looked in his 40s when he was only 33 lol
This version of DC beats everybody
Good lord I didn't know DC was that good 😳

Thought that was Jake Paul scrappin with Cormier
Yet DC couldn’t do this against Jon Jones . So imagine what jon jones could do to Cormiers opponents
Chocolate bear
Josh Barnett looks like smaller version of brock lesnar with a different hairstyle
To fight Jones, DC needed to be faster than what he was. He looked faster in Strikeforce
Lol, love how all the haters comment first
Then ran from him the last :15 seconds. No eyepokes or towelgate in this one at least.
He did his job earlier no need to stay there after ragdoll bornet
Gormier is a prime example how weak the HW really is. Honestly he is MW fighter by his size and he wrecked guys in LHW and HW.
Josh Barnet is a younger brother of jan blachowicz
Why did I think this was Jan Blachowicz😭
How the fuck anybody can up-end a beast like Barnett like that is amazing.
