I don’t think I’ve ever seen Barboza get knocked out cold and frozen like this ever. Just shows how much power is behind Justin’s hands.
It can happen when a fighter takes that much punishment that early on.
...and Barboza has been around a long time at this point.
Very telling on how INSANE Tony's durability is too.

@aloevv𖤐 even Khabib admitted his leg kicks were hard af lol
Looks to me that Gaethje was in no hurry to punch his fallen opponent, walking slowly to him and executing his punching motion in slow motion, giving the ref plenty of time to save Barboza from more damage. Great sportsmanship.
His response to the cowboy stoppage cements him as one of the most thoughtful fighters in the ufc. Him and Trevor both *showed immediate concern and love to cowboy and his corner. Rewatch if you ever want to feel simultaneously good and bad about a ko
Or you could say he was being arrogant.

People have no idea how rare Gaethje is. He looked just as fast as Barboza. Think about that. In that first punching exchange, the look on Barboza's face, was like holy shit what just happened.
Barboza was significantly faster and nimble vs Khabib. In the first few seconds of this fight against Gaethje I noticed that he looked considerably slower.

I’m always amazed at how powerful these freaking eyepokes are
I think it's part to do with the fact that these guys would have probably been fighting at 10-20 pounds heavier 15 years ago. Could you imagine Matt Serra against any top 10 welterweight today? The guy was a champ back then, and he'd get eaten alive by any of them.
No mate it's because they walk around at like 170 to 190 even and cut down gradually until the last week and then cut the weight down to 155 that's how there so powerful for lightweights as that's not there normal weight

Beautiful restraint from Justin and great job on the ref too. Barbosa's brain thank you!
Salute to two MMA greats
That intercepted attack by the ref was incredible. Protected the fighter from major damage. Hats off to you sir
No .
Justin’s striking range throughout this fight was a thing of beauty
This performance was insanely good. Maybe Gaethje's very best fight. His movement and speed was just unreal. He was beating Barboza to the punch, and Barboza is lightning fast.
You're so damn right. Read Barboza perfectly and caught him very well on the short range on the first minutes. That long range hook KO was just nuts
Brilliant stoppage by Peterson dived in there to save the fighter
Gaethje has got phenomenal power in those hands. He was throwing everything into those shots.
It’s crazy how good guys like Gaethje, Poirier, McGregor, etc are/were yet they all got manhandled by Khabib. 🤯👊🏽
Khabib is literally made of solid granite
That ref flying in there to prevent further damage was awesome to see lol , gaethe was still in full attack mode😂
The eye poke definitely had an effect here. RIP Barboza
I think this might be the worst part of mma. That and the nutshot. I know they’re sometimes given time to recover from it, but I don’t think you can recover from an eye poke or a kick to the junk in a minute or so. You can probably recover maybe half if you’re lucky, then the rest of the fight, you’re fighting at an unfair disadvantage. I really hate these two things. The problem is, I don’t know what they can actually do to fix it. Even if they remove a point for the offender, they might still be at an unfair advantage. Maybe a weakened version of youre opponent is worth more than a point. Maybe they were going to win absent the eye poke, and now you’ve compromised them and knock them out. I just don’t know what you can do about it.
Disagree... Him leaving himself wide open had nothing to do with the eye
Dude he was getting smoked either way. He left himself open like a bum
I actually came to rewatch this fight because I saw people mentioning this eye poke as having determined the fight. Definitely did not. The eye poke happened a full minute before and he wasn't even acting bothered at that point. What lost him the fight was likely the calf kicks-- I assume that's why Barboza didn't use his footwork
Seriously knocking out Barboza... Feeling goosebumps... Gaethje pure Legend...
Best backflip form I've seen from Justin. What a monster.

Surprisingly I think Gaethje had the more devastating leg kicks over Barboza and that's saying alot. But I think I'd rather have a Ford Escort driving as fast as it can into my leg than take a leg kick from either guy.
