  • This is a key part of GSPs greatness. Hughes smacktalked about teaching him how to defend an armbar so GSP armbars him. Penn did the same calling him a quitter so GSP made Penn quit on the stool. Koscheck bragged how much better of a wrestler he was so GSP stuffed his takedowns and out wrestled him. GOAT.

(Well Silva could be a bit of a clown in the cage) Now McGregor has single handedly taken all the class out of the sport and it's made critics easy for them to write it off as barbaric cage fighting again. He has undone all the work GSP did to make It into a legit sport and it's now a WWE sideshow again.

Any argument that people have against someone being the goat can be countered by gsp. Jones used steroids? GSP always tested negative Khabib fought nobodies in russia? GSP entered the ufc after 4 fights Khabib only has 3 title defenses? GSP had 13 wins in title bouts Mighty mouse fought in a weak division? GSP fought in a stacked WW division and dominated. Including 2 hall of famers. Silva has too many losses? GSP only lost twice and avenged them both with some of the most dominating performances in ufc history. On top of that he won titles in two different weight classes. And since im 100% sure some casual named Ahmadov who only started watching mma in 2018 is gonna reply to this with "whaa khabib 29-0 whaa" imma tell you this - Do you honestly think that if GSP would have fought guys with 0-2 records in russia when he was 15-0 like khabib and then only defend his ufc belt 3 times before retiering that he wouldnt be undefeated to? ofcourse he would be.

  • One of the best to ever do it. I always thought that his series of TUF v Koscheck (who cares if it's the right spelling) was such an insight into why he's one of the best to ever do it. GSP didn't think about how badly he had to win the show (though I'm sure he wanted to very badly). He gave his team his coaches and himself as a training partner and almost as a "tactician". He wouldn't try and "work" his team harder and harder like a lot of TUF coaches do. He'd teach them little tactics for the mental side of fighting and he would work with the fighter to see how they fight best and try and create a plan to draw their opponent into that type of fight

    • Prime GSP walks Khabib. Khabib is very strong for his weight class, but GSP had an unnatural strength that even guys in higher weight classes like Chael Sonnen and Rashaad Evan's who grappled with him (both VERY accomplished wrestlers who had at least 20-25 lbs on GSP) said he was out muscling them. This fight is a prime example, Matt Hughes is also a VERY strong man. He made a career out of throwing guys around with his farm boy strength (Trigg and Newton fights where he casually picked up and slammed both guys) and GSP man handled him on the ground here. Prime GSP would have beaten Khabib, maybe not walked, but he would have been able to prevent the takedown and out strike Khabib, and i also think he'd win the grappling exchanges.

    • @@jonbradley4044 Everything you said is true, but I think GSP's really massive x-factor that no one else has replicated was his reactive takedown. GSP didn't just switch from striking to grappling, mechanically, like switching a switch, the way that everyone else does. He'd actually slip a punch the way a boxer would, then transition right into a double leg from that very position. It was seriously insane. I really think Khabib would end up on his back because of the reactive takedown.

  • GSP just shows you that it's not about which single martial art is the best, but who is the best using any of them at the right time. If all you know is BJJ and you surrender the standing game to GSP... good luck. At the same time, if you don't know it... good luck when you're on your back or when you're trying to control someone else on the ground. Or, like GSP, if you also know BJJ, you have so many more options for submissions and controlling your opponent. And that defense of take downs is amazing, not to mention his jabs and elbows, kicks etc. To be the ultimate fighter, you literally need to do as the name suggests and studying fighting. Not just ONE style of fighting.
