  • Prime Anderson was a thing a beauty. Also, Rashad Evans comes out of retirement this Friday at Eagle FC vs Gabriel Checco.(edit: Rashad won by decision) Also, going into his fight with Rashad Evans, Sean Salmon had a record of 9-1. He ended his career with a record of 18-21.

Two bad losses in a row - bad TKO vs Jan where his face and nose were busted, and a bad KO vs Jiri where not only his face was busted but he completely lost consciousness and hit the canvas like a corpse. At least he got a Fight of the Night bonus with Jiri and got a 50k pay check which is still something

    • @@CT-yr8ph Sadly his legacy is tainted due to consecutive losses in his late career and failed drug tests. Those will, at minimum damper your status in the GOAT conversation. At worst it'll take you out it altogether because popping for PEDs (especially more than once) carries the stigma of drug cheat. You can argue Silva was past his prime, never the same from the leg break and all that, but his late career is part of his history. For as electric and spectacular Silva was in his prime, the era we all want to remember, his sharp decline is also part of his legacy too. That is the price fighters pay when they don't know, or don't want to quit; their legacies get tarnished.

  • The Evans vs Salmon ko is still one of the scariest in the history of the UFC. For those of us old enough to remember watching it live on Spike TV, the ko occurred, commercial break, post fight interview with Rashad, another commercial break, Joe and Goldie doing the typical Fight Night wrap up, and as the credits were rolling Sean was still starched on the mat surrounded by medical staff. Literally the building was clear of fans and he was still out stiff, yikes.

  • There were far more star fighters in the UFC back in the day. Within a few years just in the 205lb division you had Ortiz, Couture, Liddell, Rampage, Forrest, Evans, Machida, Rua and Jones. Plus Anderson Silva on the rare occasion he fought at 205. Plus guys like Wanderlei and Dan Henderson who were great fighters that never held the belt.

    • not in the ufc, in the lhw division*. the ufc has tons of stars now but theyre spread out in other divisions rather than having 1 premiere division. we have literal unranked fighters that are ppv draws like nate diaz

    • A golden age for the UFC no doubt and what got me interested in MMA. These days not that fussed and slippery slope was when Dana turned it into the McTapout and Rousey show! Even now it's all seems to be about maneuvering McTapout into a big PPV bout that he has neither earned or deserved.
