    • Chito Vera's KO of Frankie Edgar was way worse. I'd rather be ko'd by a punch than a reverse axe-kick any day. Edit: The OP said this was "the most brutal ko" for them. I disagree, I think being kicked up the face *looked* nastier, like it may disfigure your face while Nagannou's uppercut was much cleaner. Obviously Ngannou hits much harder and does more damage, but that wasn't the subject of my statement.

  • Something people don't talk about a lot is how much Ngannou's chin contributes to his power. If you look at the slowmo footage, Overeem landed an overhand left on Ngannou right before the KO, it just didn't even register. The reason he's able to move forward and throw so hard is because he knows any counter his opponent throws won't affect him. In the first Miocic fight, by the time Ngannou was significantly gassed, Miocic started landing some hard combinations that could kill most men square on the chin. It was like he was hitting a heavybag. There was no threat of concussive damage at any point. Mans got maybe the strongest chin in UFC history.

  • Ngannou used a similar left hook to drop Tyson Fury in the 3rd round of their fight. I never expected Ngannou to even be *competitive* against the heavyweight boxing champ, but a lot of people (including myself) leaned more toward Ngannou getting the decision when it was all over. It could've gone either way, but regardless, the fact that an old man MMA champ with zero boxing fights, not even a single amateur boxing fight, shook the hell out of Tyson Fury is remarkable. This is a big setback for Tyson Fury and it makes him look really bad. Or, perhaps, Francis Ngannou has just secretly been the world's the best heavyweight boxer all along, and he only shared this big secret with the world last night.

Standing like this can cause you serious problems when you face opponents who use a lot of leg kicks (Gane, Jones), especially oblique kicks. But I don't remember if Improved Francis still stood like this against Stipe (and also Stipe isn't known for kicks). Anyway, just some things I see

  • And merciful. The ref (no small guy himself) was on Francis' back, holding his arm, and he STILL held back the 2nd hammer.

  • What amazes me is how relatively normal, almost small, Overeem looks next to Ngannou. Sure, he's definitely lost weight/mass from his peak mass monster look, but he's still a giant dude by any standards

  • The scariest part is that it actually looked like a glancing blow (watch it at 0.25x speed) more than a direct hit, and it still knocked a huge guy like Overeem out cold!

    • Guys like you love to use the word "scary" don't ya? You probably just sit around all day saying stuff like, "You know what the scariest thing I have ever seen after 2pm in the afternoon is?" Or..."Oh my GAWD, seeing how that squirrel jumped the fence to take that acorn away from that chipmunk was the scariest moment of my entire life.' Or..."You know what scares me most about Donald Trump's hair? Is that it looks like someone stapled a dead skunk to his head and then dyed it blonde to match his eyebrows." Scary scary scary!!! Absolutely terrifying!!! (Biting nails) And just so you know, a punch doesn't have to land flush or solid to knock someone out. It simply has to land in the right place when a person is not expecting it or when they are unable to see it coming. Many people have been put out cold from half thrown jabs by men much smaller than Francis. So it should be of no surprise that a widely thrown uppercut with the proper turn of the hips that connects with the target at specific points of a person's face or head will likely shut someone's lights off even if it is a glancing blow thrown by a person 1/2 of Ngannou's size. It is the physics, not the power.
