The fight against Oliveira was epic. All the buildup. The hype. The tension. The video series on Anatomy of a fighter. Countdown. Embedded. The press conference. The weight-in. The fight itself was great. Rewatching brings tears to my eyes thinking how hard Makhachev has worked all his life to reach this point where he’s finally able to hold the world champion title.
Islam giving massive respect to Abdulmanap and giving the belt to khabib was such a beautiful moment. Possibly the best and most wholesome post fight moment I have seen in the octagon.

Max Holloway x2 wouldn't go out, neither would the Zombie, and never forget Ortega who nearly subbed him for the belt, Volk fought some killers no doubt.

This man’s striking was so underrated going into the Oliveira fight, but looking back you can see how elite he is against Green. Bobby can find openings against anyone, but Islam post-Martins is just defensively flawless. But he’s also offensively fast af. Volk’s advantage will still be his speed (cuz if you can make Holloway look slow you’re basically striking like a cobra), but my god Islam was faster than both Green and Oliveira. And with accuracy too. Javier was not bullshitting. Islam is a complete fighter like few we’ve seen. Definitely in that GSP, Usman, Silva, Khabib, Fedor, Jones tier.

Let’s not forget that so many fans were clowning Islam before the Charles fight. Saying he ‘fought nobodies’. Arman Tsarukyan is legit as they come and that fight was a wrestling masterclass, Drew Dober and Thiago Moises are both super underrated, Davi Ramos is a ADCC champ with some of the slickest BJJ in the world and Dan Hooker was #6 at the time of their fight. Islam fought solid fighters who weren’t afraid to take the L. The rest ducked him, but now he has what they want and those fighters have no choice to but to fight him. The Charles fight definitely opened up the eyes of all the hive mind fans that discredited Islam without ever seeing him fight.
