Valentina won handily but no one else at flyweight has challenged her as much as Joanna did. Her ability to get up is amazing
The competition at flyweight is terrible..I'm actually really excited for Miesha Tate moving to 125. She will easily the best wrestler in the division.

The skill level on display was phenomenal - from both of them. Obviously Valentina is significantly better - speed and power is mesmerising, especially on the counter-attack.

Joanna's only advantages against Val were volume and gas tank. The volume got largely nullified by those piston counters, but maybe in a 10 Rd fight Joanna might outlast Val lol

I love this fight. Technical chess match. I think Valentina is the physically bigger woman and that helped her out muscle Joanna in many of the exchanges but Joanna got her licks in. That head kick she landed was beautiful. Knowing that Shevchenko would dip off to her left to avoid a straight punch Joanna capitalized on it and landed that beautiful head kick. Love both of these ladies.
You know that Shevchenko is actually not really the bigger woman, Joannas natural walk weight is around 140, Valentinas is around 133lbs if she eats what she wants. Joanna Jedrzejcyk is actually also a natural Flyweight and they did fight three times for in Muay Thai Championships before, which Valentina Shevchenko all won.
@@DarkJediFarkas joanna has a thinner frame than Val. I agree she's better at flyweight but she's not as muscular or stocky as Val is. Valentina could never make 115. Valentina is without a doubt the physically stronger woman and even when they fought in muay Thai valentina won using her takedowns and dumps. Which is basically how she won their title bout in MMA.
Thing is, Joanna doesn't have KO power. So Valentina was able to eat the kick seemingly without issue, I think Valentina has a very good chin as well.

JJ has thinner arms, but much bigger legs and torso than Val, she's an overall bigger woman, bigger hands and feet too, bigger forearms, smaller upper ams and shoulders. Val has a stronger upper body, JJ has the stronger legs.

The size difference definitely played in Valentina's favor, but Joanna went the distance against arguably the best female fighter in the world. I know she has drawn quite some criticism with her "heel character," but Joanna remains one of the most exciting and talented women in the UFC. I hope she'll be able to regain the strawweight belt before she retires.

I recall a couple of boring Joanna title defenses. She lost a lot of steam during that period and that's one of the reasons.
@Nigalas Cage so both Joanna and Rose have 1 boring fight then? Rose was far worse in comparison. Plus Joanna didn’t intentionally make the fight boring. Val wanted to wrestle and hold Joanna on bottom and clinch a lot in round 4/5 against the cage because Val was slowing down.
Joanna has my respect, she was in a really great fight with Zhang!

When Valentina fights you can see the beauty in this game, so well balanced, technique is so sharp, true to her namesake the Bullet. Can't wait to see her go with Amanda again. Same with JJ, her striking and stance is so beautiful. Both are legend status regardless
Valentina is a videogame character. Every move is executed as if it follows a script in a programm.
Valentina S is predominantly a counter-puncher so her fights can be less exciting when she has an opponent who is not coming after her. Joanna J has always been a non-stop forward-moving aggressor so that made this fight very dynamic. Big respect to JJ for moving UP a wt-class and lasting all 5 rounds. Valentina was moving DOWN a wt-class. A lot of bigger girls could not go 5 rounds with VAL like JJ did here. Lastly, on a personal note, I like that JJ does not have all those crappy tatoos on her body like so many fighters have these days.
