  • Two things people aren’t acknowledging: 1. His beautiful speech in the post fight. That was a touch of class and articulated very well. He didn’t call out Strickland or even care about his performance. He went straight to raising awareness to those who are suffering. 2. Kamaru obviously wasn’t 100% but has anyone ever seen someone wrestle and take Kamaru down like that ever? I don’t think there’s another middleweight, let alone welterweight that could take Kamaru down w such ease.

  • Observations from the fight : 1) A beautiful use of post-match-winning speech. Send a message of peace and unity to the world against violence. 2) A display of great mental state, when he expressed gratitude to UFC management for getting him where he and his family are today. 3) A brilliant display of dominance in R1 from Khamzat. A master display of defense from Usman. Not many could have avoided a choke from that position. 4) A mature way of approaching R2 from Khamzat, with an injured hand. 5) A complete nail-biting thrilling fight display in R3 from both the lions. Combination of striking, grappling, defense and respecting the opponents. 6) Khamzat's display of admiration for Usman through his post-match-winning gestures (tap on the shoulder post-match winner announcement), his words for him during the speech, and when he says 'He Made Me A Better Fighter Today'. Khamzat hand getting injured evened out the odds for Usman for a short-notice fight. Made this a competitive contest.

What I though understood is, Khamzat took down Usman more than Usman got taken down his entire career in the UFC, which is increadible. Also, assuming he broke his hand first round, how he pulled that W vs not just any fighter but probably one of the most intelligent and best fighter is absolutely crazy. On a side note though, it was looking like he was losing his breath in round 3, he was slowing down. Something similar happened vs Burns fight. That's where he should upgrade more, but it doesn't make sense as everyone keep saying he's a cardio beast, nobody comes close he never gets tired etc.

  • I think we fans connect (within limits) with the people who, despite their apparently superhuman qualities, seem to have similar experiences and feelings to us mortals. It’s about the authenticity of the lived human experience. Volkonovski has that in bucket loads. What I think makes him different is his authenticity, courage and honesty in what he talks about. He seems so human. Contrast that with Jon Jones. A better fighter but about as inauthentic a human being as there is, at least in my opinion 🙏🏾

I mean all respect to Usman, but if Khamzat hasn't injured his hand in RD1 (doesn't have to be broken) I don't think RD2 and RD3 would've been the same.
