Not only dealing with prime BJ, also took a poke to his eye that cut his eyeball and then Penn followed that up with an uppercut that broke GSP's nose just 1 minute into round 1. • Part of it was at least self-inflicted because the dude kept fighting well past his prime, and couldn't stop losing. It tarnished his legacy to the point where now modern fans can just look at his record on Wikipedia, and write him off as a bum however incorrect it may be. Knowing when to retire is so important, had he stayed retired after the Nick Diaz fight, his legacy would have been seen in a more positive light.

I'm not saying he didn't train, but that never seemed to be something he had to do so he didn't. GSP was extremely talented too, but also definitely trained and sharpened his skills constantly. I think it means a lot that he got poked in the eye, which definitely hindered him. He got probably a broken nose, which clearly had an effect. He was up against a man who had arguably the greatest take down defense, yet still got taken down multiple times. He never gave up, he never lessened up, and he beat BJ. This was BJs fight to lose after the first round. He got demoralized I think when GSP was getting better as the fight went on. I think the right man won for sure. He earned that win.

It keep getting better and better with time, as the sport evolves and has its roster and thus talent base continues to deepen and expand. The welterweight division right now is insanely stacked with some of the best fighters this division has ever seen. Usman is arguably GOAT status, with the level of opponents on his resume surpassing the quality of opponent's on GSP's resume. GSP would have a much harder time even winning a title once these days let alone dominating for a lengthy period of time. One of those fights was against a 225 lb Lyoto Machida. Then he returns to UFC and is fighting GSP here. This is why old MMA records can't be compared to current ones. The old days of MMA were so chaotic and unorganized it was not as easy to maintain a consistent record, especially something like title defenses.

I don't know about you, but dismissing a 16-14-2 record as not worth caring about is actually stupid because fans who weren't around during his era i.e. most MMA fans nowadays who came from the Conor/Ronda hype-train will only know BJ from his losses and dismiss him as a bum because of his record, irrespective of what he did in the past. Although I think bj has a good style for this pace and his deliberate jabs and fluid counters work until about 12 mins into the video where the pace halts to a grind from gsp turning it into an mma fight instead of a boxing match by working the margins in the clinch and filling in some blanks with a takedown. The style war and each fighter finding ways to keep bringing it is crazy impressive and I think bj could be more fit but gsp shows good cardio bursts late into the match to initiate the clinch. In short I think there’s a combination of skills at display here that could slow down the modern high pace fighter.

  • 7:00 Since Georges, I don't think we've EVER seen somebody exit full mount, attack from standing, then re-enter top position for additional ground and pound. His versality, nouse and arsenal of weapons was truly something special. I still can't get over BJ's flexibility, freaky!

  • One of the fights with the highest quality and level inside the octagon ever. If not the fight. Both brilliant fighters. Art in motion. You can breathe the mutual acknowledgment and intense competitiveness these two guys had.

    • @@Kriddle1229 Oh it’s not that hard man. Very simple metaphor. I’m sure if you make an effort you can get it. Perhaps I should just say: yO bRoO tHaT wAs lIkE sO sICK mAaN. So you get it.

    • @@luismarioXD Who said I didn't "get it". That's not a metaphor btw. You probably shouldn't use words if you don't know what they mean. Don't deflect on me because you were called out on writing some cringe shit that didn't make sense.

    • @@Kriddle1229 That was literally a metaphor man. Perhaps you shouldn’t correct if you are not doing it right. Metaphor: A thing regarded as representative or symbolic of something else, especially something abstract. Breath= Symbolic meaning of feel, perceive. Get it now?
